LeBron James’ manager wants to help create a rival league to the NBA

Despite the criticism it may encounter, the NBA remains the largest basketball league in the world and today has no real competition in terms of international visibility and economic power. But some want to change that, including LeBron James’ manager.

If we believe ESPNwho cites the source BloombergMaverick Carter (LeBron’s manager) is involved in the project of creating a new international league, which would aim to one day compete with the NBA.

A renowned businessman since he managed LeBron’s affairs, Carter took on an advisory role with a group of investors wanting to raise funds to the tune of $5 billion with the aim of creating this new league. According to ESPN, this league would be made up of six men’s teams and six women’s teams that would play all over the world.

The site Front Office Sports adds that eight cities are already in the plans to organize the matches, including Singapore. The teams would spend two weeks in each city. However, unlike the site Bloomberg, FOS announces that this new league would not have the main objective of competing with the NBA, but rather of offering an alternative by “taking inspiration from Formula 1”.

Investors include UPS, Evercore and SC Holdings, as well as Geoff Prentice (founder of Skype) and Grady Burnett (former Facebook executive).

Alongside LeBron James, Maverick Carter has never hesitated to embark on ambitious projects, most often brilliantly since the King’s revenues have officially reached $1 billion in 2021. This new league project – no matter its end goal – is clearly one of them.

However, it is important to emphasize that LeBron is not involved (at least directly) in the project.
