Even the biggest can miss certain things… This is the case of Microsoft which has not managed to take advantage of the turning point in the mobile world and impose Windows Phone.
Bill Gates recently returned to this rather difficult period for Microsoft, specifying that this failure is largely its responsibility and that it cost the firm enormously, both strategically and financially… Worse still, Microsoft’s failure has also brought with it certain partners, such as Nokia, convinced that the American giant would ultimately be right to shun Android.
However, in the early 2000s, Microsoft had everything it needed to face Google and Apple. Bill Gates thus evokes his “biggest mistake ever“, that of having underestimated Google and especially Android. Microsoft thus sinned through pride, believing that its aura and its expertise would be enough to impose itself on users… But here, on the other hand, Google has largely optimized its services, designed an entire ecosystem and Android quickly showed itself to be more open, more ergonomic, more efficient…
Microsoft therefore thought that Google’s first initiatives would not succeed… And the brand invested far too late in the development of Windows Phone, thus offering a Imperfect and wobbly bone, shunned by both users and third-party developers while, during this time, the Play Store already offered thousands of mobile applications.
-Windows Phone never really took off and Microsoft is now focusing on Cloud services and hybrid solutions under Windows without specifically targeting the world of smartphones, but rather that of portable devices.
