Donald Trump reacts to the Supreme Court’s decision regarding TikTok

A few minutes after the rejection of Tiktok’s appeal by the Supreme Court, the future president announced that he would soon act.

Having relied on the Supreme Court for a time, Tiktok could ultimately be saved by Donald Trump. This Friday, January 17, the judges of the Court unanimously approved the entry into force of the law threatening the Chinese social network with a ban in the United States.

While he could be banned from this Sunday, January 19, the elected president, who will take office the next day, quickly reacted to this decision. “At the end of the day, it’s up to me, so you’ll see what I do,” he told CNN reporter Pamela Brown by phone. “Congress gave me the decision, so I will make it,” he added.

Decision to come

Joe Biden, who signed the law threatening Tiktok with a ban last April, announced this Friday that he was leaving the decision to apply it to Donald Trump. “Given the timeline, this administration recognizes that enforcement actions must be taken by the next administration, which takes office on Monday,” the White House said in a statement.

“My decision on TikTok will be made in the not too distant future, but I need time to review the situation,” the future president said on his social network, Truth Social.

Donald Trump has repeatedly declared that he plans to save TikTok. He would notably consider doing this with a decree postponing the ban on the application from 60 to 90 days. Time for its administration to negotiate a sale or find an alternative solution. Until now, the house of Tiktok, Bytedance, has however refused to sell the American assets of the social network, although several people are interested.
