Contact sports have changed the lives of many people across the world, with tales of redemption emerging from the world of mixed martial arts. Many fighters have left the streets and tough neighborhoods to reinvent their future, but Arman Tsarukyan’s story is different; he is a millionaire by birth. Early Sunday morning, at 04:00 (MAX), Tsarukyan will challenge Islam Makhachev for the lightweight title at UFC 311 in California, USA.
Born into an Armenian family in a small Georgian village near the border, Tsarukyan did not grow up in harsh conditions. Rather, he comes from a privileged background, with a real estate businessman father ensuring that he never experienced financial problems or negative influences. His family moved to Russia when Arman was three years old, looking for better opportunities. He benefited from a comfortable and safe environment, a stark contrast to the typical stories of his peers.
Arman fights out of passion rather than necessity. His interest in contact sports was rooted in Russia, where he trained with the stability provided by his family’s wealth. Not only did he love to fight, but he also dedicated almost a decade to ice hockey before finally choosing wrestling. His talent was obvious, since he always distinguished himself during local competitions.
Despite his family’s fortune, it did not diminish one of Tsarukyan’s most remarkable qualities: his discipline. He developed a rigorous workout routine, which he followed diligently. This devotion allowed him to rack up victories and ultimately make his UFC debut in April 2019. Although it wasn’t the dream debut he had imagined, Tsarukyan agreed to a fight on short notice against Islam Makhachev , which resulted in a defeat on points.
-Today, he seeks revenge for this defeat, which he will have the opportunity to avenge this weekend. After that failure, he went on a five-fight win streak, most recently against Joel Álvarez, ending the latter’s impressive four-submission streak. He also beat prominent names in the division, including Beneil Dariush and former champion Charles Oliveira, one of the UFC legends.
As the current number one challenger, Tsarukyan aims to strip Makhachev of his lightweight title, which is also a goal for Ilia Topuria, setting the stage for a potential clash. Topuria has expressed his desire to face the Russian as he aims to become champion in a second weight class. Recently, Arman made remarks urging the Spanish-Georgian fighter to move up to 155 pounds, insinuating that such a matchup could bring even more excitement to the division. A collision between the two could well be on the horizon.
