The cold spell hitting France is causing an increase in road accidents, particularly in Ariège, where icy roads have surprised many motorists. This Thursday, January 17, several road trips were recorded, without victims, but reminding us of the importance of caution during this winter period.
The cold wave which is hitting a large part of France has led to an increase in accidents linked to ice in recent days. And Ariège is no exception.
Thursday January 17 will remain a real “Black Thursday” for several motorists, many of whom ended up in ditches. In fact, no less than five accidents were recorded during the morning.
The first incident occurred around 9:27 a.m. on the D627, near Montardit. The motorist involved was taken care of by the mayor of Lasserre. A few minutes later, a second road exit was reported between Nalzen and Celles, on the D117. The two occupants of the vehicle had to be evacuated through the duty garage.
-At 10:03 a.m., a third motorist, victim of icy conditions, ended up in the ditch at a place called Ségalas, in Durban-sur-Arize, at the intersection of the D15 and D117. Finally, two other incidents occurred around 10:20 a.m.: one, again in the town of Celles (D117), just 500 meters from the previous one, and the other, on the road from Foix to Saint- Girons, where freezing rain caused several collisions between motorists.
Fortunately, these accidents did not cause any casualties. However, the gendarmerie is calling on Ariège motorists to be extra careful this winter, by driving slowly and limiting their movements.
