Haaland’s Megalomaniacal Contract: €1M/week, €52M/year, and €500M by 2034

The Norwegian striker has committed his future to Manchester City until 2034, signing one of the most lucrative contracts in football history.

Manchester City announced a significant contract extension with Erling Haaland this Friday. According to a source, the club has spared no expense in ensuring that the prolific striker extends his stay in Manchester until 2034. Notably, the release clauses have been removed, being only valid until from 2029 and at prohibitive amounts. The deal recognizes Haaland’s major contribution to Pep Guardiola’s squad, as evidenced by his impressive tally of 111 goals in 126 appearances over the last two and a half seasons in England.

Previously, Haaland’s contract, which was to run until 2027, paid him around 20 million euros per year. However, under the new terms, his salary will more than double. The base salary would be taken into account at 35 million euros—higher than that of Kylian Mbappé, who earns 31 million euros per year at Real Madrid. This amount could increase exponentially depending on performance-related bonuses, such as the number of goals scored, potentially taking his annual earnings to €52 million.

Financially, this contract means that Haaland could earn around €1.06 million per week, surpassing €4 million at the end of each month. At the end of this agreement in 2034, when the striker will be 34 years old, he could accumulate almost half a billion euros from this signing alone, without even taking into account potential sponsorship contracts. This deal is considered the most important in the history of English football and is seen as one of the most monumental contracts internationally in sport.
