Lebanese arrested for collaboration with Israel

The Lebanese army announced in a statement released on Friday the arrest of a Lebanese man for having “communicated with agents of the Israeli intelligence service”.

The latter had convinced HA “that they belonged to an international organization”, reports the army. He “provided security information to his recruiters, then became involved in espionage activities by traveling to the occupied Palestinian territories where he met his recruiters and received sums of money from them,” adds the press release. He was brought before the competent court.

Lebanon and Israel are in a state of war. Lebanese law prohibits any contact with the Jewish state, a crime punishable by prison. Dozens of people have been arrested in the past for “collaboration” with Israel, and court decisions have been handed down for up to 25 years in prison. At the end of 2022, Lebanese security forces announced that they had arrested 185 people suspected of “collaboration” with Israel since the start of Lebanon’s economic collapse in 2019.
