Djokovic knocks out Machac in three sets and reaches the round of 16 at the Australian Open

Novak Djokovic wanted to reassure himself. After losing a round in his first two rounds against Nishesh Basavareddy then Jaime Faria, the Serb had to gain strength during his third round.

This time, it was Tomas Machac, 25th ATP player, who stood in the way of the former world number 1.

More consistent in the exchange and more solid on his service games, Djokovic completed the match in three sets (6-1, 6-4, 6-4 in 2h21).

With 28 winning shots, 20 unforced errors and 5 breaks, the Serbian displayed a good level of play and joined, once again, the second week in Melbourne.

In the next round, Djokovic will face another Czech player, Jiri Lehecka, who dominated Benjamin Bonzi in three short sets a little earlier.

The 29th in the world did not have a lot of problems qualifying for the round of 16 and could be the first real test for the man who has won the Australian Open ten times in his career.

This is also the 17th time that Djokovic has reached the round of 16 of the Australian Major.

Since 2007 inclusive, he has each time reached this stage of the competition, with the exception of 2017 when he was beaten in the second round by Denis Istomin.
