Dame Joan Plowright, great British actress, dies at 95

British film legend Dame Joan Plowright has died aged 95.

The actor, who was married to another great actor, Lord Laurence Oliver, from 1961 until his death in 1989, “passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025, surrounded by his family,” the actor said. BBC et News from the sky » reported, citing a statement from his family.

“She enjoyed a long and illustrious career in theater, film and television for seven decades until blindness caused her to retire,” the family statement continued. He added that the news was published “with great sadness”.

One of Britain’s most acclaimed and distinguished film stars, Plowright was made a Dame by the late Queen Elizabeth in 2003.

Following the news of his death, the Society of London Theaters said all West End theaters in the British capital would dim their lights in tribute to Plowright at 7pm on Tuesday 21 January.
