Zverev dominates Fearnley to reach fourth round of Australian Open without dropping a set.

World No. 2 Alexander Zverev continues to show his dominance at the 2025 Australian Open, securing a three-set victory over British hopeful Jacob Fearnley in the third round. The 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 triumph, achieved in just over two hours, propelled Zverev to the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the 21st time in his career.

Zverev’s clinical performance

Zverev was untouchable in Melbourne this week, advancing up the table without dropping a single set. Against Fearnley, the German’s consistency and power were on full display as he controlled the match with 25 winners against just 15 unforced errors, while maintaining an impressive 72% accuracy on his first serves.

Fearnley, ranked well outside the top, put up a fierce fight but struggled to match Zverev’s precision and intensity. The Briton only managed to convert two of his six break points and made costly errors at critical moments.

Third set: Zverev resists a comeback

The third set saw Fearnley briefly challenge the world number 2, breaking immediately after losing his serve in the third game. However, Zverev quickly regained control, breaking Fearnley in the fifth game with a winning punt. Despite facing four break points in the seventh game, Fearnley stood firm but was unable to threaten Zverev’s lead. Serving at 5-4, Zverev sealed the victory with consecutive service winners, securing his place in the last 16.

On the title track

Zverev’s ability to dominate in both short rallies and longer rallies highlighted his superior form. Winning 59 of the shortest rallies of up to four shots, the German consistently outplayed Fearnley with his powerful serve and aggressive baseline play.

The victory adds to Zverev’s impressive run in Melbourne, cementing his reputation as one of the tournament’s strongest competitors. The 2024 semi-finalist now looks ahead to his fourth round match, eager to maintain his flawless run.
