This Thursday, January 16, David Lynch died at the age of 78, we learned in a press release published on his official Facebook page and written by his family. “It is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and artist David Lynch. We would like you to give us some privacy at this difficult time. There is a great empty in the world now that he is no longer among us But as he said: ‘Keep your eyes on the donut and not the hole.’ It’s a beautiful day with golden sunshine and blue skies all the way.”, wrote those close to the filmmaker.
David Lynch suffered from serious lung disease
David Lynch suffered from health problems. Last August, the director announced that he was affected by a serious illness, pulmonary emphysema. In a message published on his X account, the septuagenarian admitted to having smoked too much for many years. “I must say that I really enjoyed smoking and I love tobacco – the smell of it, lighting cigarettes, smoking them – but there is a price to pay for this pleasure and that price for me is the emphysema”he indicated. At the time, David Lynch wanted to be reassuring about his state of health. “I have now stopped smoking for over two years. I have recently had many exams and the good news is that I am in excellent shape, apart from the emphysema. I am overjoyed and will never take my retirement.”

Throughout his career, David Lynch has enjoyed great success in cinema such as Elephant Man (1980), Dune (1984),Blue Velvet (1986), Sailor et Lulawhich won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1990, Mulholland Drive, which received the César for best foreign film in 2002, or even Inland Empire (2006). The filmmaker also directed the series Twin Peaksbroadcast in 1990 and 1991, before returning for a third season in 2017 under the name Twin Peaks : The Return. David Lynch had four children: Jennifer, Austin Jack, Riley and Lula, aged 56, 41, 32 and 12 respectively.
