– Australian Open 2025: Bencic beats Osaka

Japanese Naomi Osaka retired after the first set of her third round at the Australian Open. This allowed Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic to reach the round of 16. The score was 7-6 [3] when Osaka, 51st WTA player in the world, was unable to continue the match, following abdominal muscle problems which forced her to retire in the final in Auckland.

Bencic, ranked 294th in the WTA, will face the winner of the upcoming match between American Coco Gauff, seeded No. 3, and Canadian Leylah Fernandez
