Prince George knows it, he will become king one day. But before that happens, he is expected to inherit one of his father Prince William’s titles when he ascends the British throne before him.

Second in line to the throne, Prince George, now 11 years old, will one day become king. But until that day arrives, what title will the young prince inherit when his father, Prince William, ascends the throne before him?

According to royal expert Huw Thomas, the young prince could well inherit the title of Prince of Wales, which Prince William himself inherited from his father, King Charles III, who held it between 1958 and 2022. “I would be stunned if it disappeared, only because the monarchy is built on tradition,” he told the Sun . “It may not be a hereditary title, but it is tradition that the monarch gives his son the title of Prince of Wales.”

A role that the current Prince of Wales received very quickly after the death of Elizabeth II in September 2022. “Charles barely waited 24 hours before giving the title of Prince of Wales to William,” adds the royal expert . “And it would be surprising if in the future William says, ‘Now I’m going to kind of give up on this one’.”

“Show that he is not his father”

And despite this similarity with the monarch, the royal expert nevertheless affirms that the current Prince of Wales would feel the need “to show that he is not his father”, and above all that he will not “be satisfied with imitate what he did” the day he arrives on the throne.

But that day hasn’t arrived yet, and in the meantime, Prince William and Kate Middleton are “slowly preparing” their eldest son to become king one day. Latest debate? The young prince’s place of study. Prince William wants his son to follow in his footsteps at Eton College boys’ boarding school, while Kate Middleton is said to be hoping to see him enter the co-ed school Malborough College, which she attended with her brother James and sister Pippa between 1996 and 2000. A decision that would leave the Princess of Wales heartbroken.
