Fire in a house in Ouffet: firefighters have difficulty finding the resident “who suffers from Diogenes syndrome”

A fire broke out in a house in Ouffet, in the province of Liège. One of the two residents is missing.

The fire started Thursday evening, around 10 p.m., in a house on rue Tige Pirette where a lady in her sixties and her daughter lived. The girl was saved and hospitalized, but her mother has not yet been found. “The operation is complex because the lady who lived in this building suffers from Diogenes syndrome (behavioral disorder which leads to a compulsive accumulation of objects, editor’s note). And the clearing phase to find her is very complicated”indicated the firefighters of the area, contacted by our editorial staff. The search will resume this morning.

The fire also threatened two neighboring homes. Its inhabitants had to be evacuated, but were unharmed.

Around twenty firefighters were mobilized as part of this intervention, as well as civil protection.
