– Coupe des : takes his revenge on Voisins and goes to the quarters

A confrontation which had a scent of déjà vu. The ES reserve hosted FC Voisins on January 12 as part of the round of 16 of the Coupe des . And in this Saint-Quentin derby, the Trappists took their revenge on the team which had beaten them in the final of the competition 3 years ago (read our edition of June 21, 2022). This time, no penalty shootout, and a confrontation at another stage of the competition, but a feat for the Trappists, residents of Departmental 2, who take out a club playing a division higher, by winning 2- 1 at the end of regulation time.

After a first period without any goals on the newly renovated synthetic pitch at the Gravaud stadium in Trappes (read our edition of November 26, 2024), things settled down upon returning from the locker room with a penalty in favor of the Trappists at the start of 2nd half. Penalty converted by striker Rachid Guessoum. A match followed without too many clear chances, despite some scares for Trappes from set pieces. The Trappists, no more worried than that, thought they would hold their lead, but Voisins ended up equalizing at the end of the match, on a back cross.

But the game had not yet delivered its final twists and turns. Following a ball released by the Vicinois goalkeeper in the area, a Trappist player recovered and was hooked. 2nd penalty, again for the locals. And once again, the latter did not tremble in this exercise. Right winger Kenzo Mendy found the top corner of the opposing goalkeeper, who started on the right side. A goalkeeper who tried to make up for his mistake having caused the foul by going up on the last set pieces, but these resulted in nothing. The score remained there, and Trappes could savor his qualification.

“There is a lot of joy. I am satisfied with my team. We worked well,” reacted Sidi Konate, the coach of the Trappist reserve, a few minutes after the final whistle. He particularly praises the “state of mind and combativeness” of his troops, which according to him made the difference. “It was a D1 team, we are in D2,” he recalls. It was a good team up front, and we had to respond in the midfield battle, to be combative, and behind, I think it paid off, because we didn’t give up. Even at 1-1, we saw each other on penalties, but the players did not accept, and they went for this 2-1. »

A performance ultimately reflecting the season of the Trappist reserve, currently 2nd in its group in the championship and in the race to climb among the departmental elite, its objective (the 1st in each group goes up, as well as the best 2nd). “We are trying to continue,” Sidi Konate appreciates. I have a great team, players who meet expectations, and it’s really a pleasure, knowing that we are a reserve team. In a match like that, we really only have players from team 2, without taking players from R2, who are really above it, and that’s nice to see. These are guys who work, and the work pays off. »

The Trappes reserve will also play its next championship match on January 19 in Gargenville (kick-off 3 p.m.). The quarter-finals of the Coupe des Yvelines are scheduled for March 2.

On the side of Voisins, on the other hand, it is also a result like the season, but in the other direction. The Vicinois are not taking advantage of the cup to forget a little about their disappointments in the championship, they who are penultimate in their group in Departmental 1. They will also play their next championship match on January 19, with a trip to . On the other hand, for the Coupe des Yvelines, it is already over for a club that was a winner 3 years ago, but also a finalist last season.

Pleasure also qualified for the quarters

Another SQY club still competing in this Coupe des Yvelines, FO , which plays in Departmental 2, qualified for the quarter-finals. And there also by achieving a feat, since the Plaisirois dismissed Bailly-Noisy at home, an opponent playing a division above. In its Bernard Giroux stadium, Plaisir won 3-2 in this round of 16 after a match rich in goals.
