Anderlecht took an option for the Belgian Cup final by defeating Antwerp (1-0) this Thursday evening. The only goal of the match was scored by Degreef in the 30th minute of play.
The Croky Cup being a clear objective for both teams this season, the players were on fire for this first match. This was evident from the first three minutes with a confusion which forced the referee to sanction Janssen, Simic and Adryelson with a card. The latter was in fact the holder barely a day after his arrival.
Anderlecht enjoys a good start
It was then Anderlecht who were able to take control of the match. The people of Brussels were much livelier than a few days earlier against Club Bruges. Partly thanks to the young Degreef, even if Edozie and Verschaeren were also very active in the first half. These good intentions produced the necessary chances, and RSCA hit the target twice before half-time.
After half an hour of play, Anderlecht were rewarded. After a good counter-attack, Edozie managed to place the ball for De Degreef. The latter crowned his excellent first half with a beautiful goal. Antwerp couldn’t do much about this.
The visitors, however, created a few good chances at the end of the match. Coosemans had to deal with attempts by Janssen, twice, and Alderweireld.
Antwerp without big chances
At halftime, RSCA maintained a deserved 1-0 advantage. But the home team came out of the locker room a little weaker and left the start of the second half to the Antwerp players. The visitors, however, were unable to convert their superiority on the pitch into goal danger.
Meanwhile, Degreef continued to show warning signs. This time, he even tried his luck with a header, again on the crossbar.
As the match neared the end, both teams seemed to be content with a final score of 1-0. The Mauve and White were not really trying to score a second goal. Antwerp could not get close to Coosemans’ goal.
Anderlecht therefore achieved a satisfactory victory. The return match in a undoubtedly boiling Bosuil will still offer many possibilities.
