For its first exhibition of the year, the Visitation highlights Joan Lopez, a Périgord artist who is exhibiting solo for the first time. “Uncrossed Views” is available to discover until Saturday February 15.
Deputy for culture at the town hall of Périgueux, Rodolphe Delcros is delighted to see a Périgord artist exhibiting his works at the Visitation. “We had 35 requests from local artists and we selected Joan Lopez,” he explains. This young painter, also a teacher at La Douze, was selected for his warm-colored paintings. “My paintings represent portraits of families or friends. I also paint local landscapes like La Jemaye, Saint-Léon or the Arcachon basin. » His painting technique is quite particular since he uses his smartphone. “It’s thanks to him that I can choose my colors,” he smiles.
This self-taught painter learned painting at Atelier 71 in Bordeaux. Today, it is in his cellar, where he has set up his studio, that Joan Lopez paints, drawing inspiration from David Hockney, Peter Doig and Kim Dorland. “I work mainly with oil paint. Before painting I drew, thanks to the Pilote magazine. And little by little, I moved towards painting,” underlines the artist.
A workshop for young people on February 1st
This is the first time he has exhibited alone. “I had already done it as part of Sanilh’art. But there, it’s impressive to see his name and his face on posters. » His works can be discovered in the Visitation exhibition room, where there is a gallery of portraits, and in the chapel with large formats representing places that visitors will no doubt recognize.
-And why is this exhibition called “Uncrossed Perspectives?” Joan Lopez smiles. “These portraits represent people I know. They all look in opposite directions. They give the impression of being together but without really being,” explains the artist.
This exhibition will be marked by a highlight, Saturday February 1, with a workshop open to young people aged 7 to 14. Budding artists will be able to immerse themselves in a universe similar to that of Joan Lopez, strong in colors and simplified shapes, reinforced by a play of perspective.
