Technical characteristics: the great mystery

The most nebulous aspect of this announcement concerns the technical characteristics of the Switch 2. If rumors suggest an 8-core ARM Cortex-A78C chip coupled with an Nvidia T239 Ampere GPU, Nintendo has not yet confirmed any characteristics .

Line-up and strategy games

If a new Mario Kart was briefly seen, the rest of the launch catalog remains in the shadows. An unusual situation for Nintendo, which generally accompanies its console announcements with a preview of upcoming games. This absence raises questions about the progress of first-party projects and support from third-party publishers.

Backwards compatibility, although confirmed, also raises questions. Nintendo mentions Switch games that could be “incompatible or not fully compatible” with the Switch 2. What will the compatibility criteria be? Will the games benefit from graphics improvements or greater fluidity on the new console?

Price and availability

Price remains one of the biggest unknowns.

The precise release date is not yet set, although 2025 is confirmed. “Discovery events” planned for April, including a Paris session from April 4 to 6 at the Grand Palais, suggest a launch that is unlikely to occur before mid-year.
