Jannik Sinner qualified for the third round

World number one and defending champion, Jannik Sinner qualified for the third round of the Australian Open by beating Tristan Schoolkate (4-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3), not without having was jostled by the Australian.

World number one Jannik Sinner has advanced to the third round of the Australian Open. On the other hand, the event comes from the fact that Sinner conceded his first set for the first time in more than 100 days. Indeed, the Italian had won the last 29 sets he had played. A surprise all the greater when we look at the caliber of his opponent, Tristan Schoolkate, only 173rd in the world and beneficiary of a wild card.

Despite a poor start marked by the loss of the first set, the world No. 1 and reigning champion quickly recovered to secure his place in the third round (4-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3) . He will face the American Marcos Giron, 46th player in the world.

The Italian’s lack of intensity cost him the first set, while Schoolkate played his luck courageously, leaving very little time for Sinner to launch his shots, and very often going to the net to force the fate (17 points gained on 18 climbs in this set).

The turning point of the match came in the second set, where the Australian made two unforced errors then poorly executed a serve and volley at 3-3. Sinner then rushed into the gap with a winning forehand. After a first break, the Italian then started again completely. A break at the start of the third round, then a second to take off with the score (4-0). Same scenario at the start of the fourth set, where he quickly breaks, helped by Schoolkate’s double faults, and escapes (3-0). Sinner was then able to conclude the match and can continue to dream of defending his title.
