Thorsten Fink was nervous after the Belgian Cup semi-final first leg lost by Genk at Club Brugge. According to him, the 2-1 penalty should never have been awarded.
Thorsten Fink had it bad after the Belgian Cup semi-final first leg lost by Racing Genk on the pitch at Club Brugge this Wednesday evening. Tolu Arokodare opened the scoring after 25 minutes.
But, at the end of the first period, Joel Ordonez equalized with a header at the far post, while Mike Penders seemed to have been hampered in his exit. And, a quarter of an hour from time, it was a disputed penalty awarded to Blauw & Zwart which allowed Christos Tzolis to make it 2-1.
“If I were a referee, I wouldn’t let such a penalty decide such a match. It’s a shame to lose, but we didn’t have a bad match. We could have played better, but I’m not unhappy with the performance”, Fink underlined at a press conference, before cursing.
“We scored a good goal while Bruges scored from two set-pieces. There was no need for a penalty. There are a lot of contacts like this in a match. I expect more from a referee in a such an evening. It’s not a simple match, but a semi-final of the Belgian Cup.”
It is therefore with the knife between their teeth that the Limburgers will compete in the return leg, on February 5. “At home and in front of our supporters, I think we can come back. I have confidence in my players,” concluded Thorsten Fink.
