St James’ Park awaits – Newcastle vs Wolves preview

Welcome to the Newcastle v Wolves preview.

Wednesday January 15 – 7:30 p.m.

Newcastle United return to league action on Wednesday evening after cup adventures at Arsenal and at home to Bromley.

The Black and Whites will be hoping to claim their sixth consecutive league victory and their ninth in all competitions, having reached a purple zone which saw the Toons move up to fifth in the Championship and maintain their interest in both domestic cups.

Wolves will be hoping to secure three points which will help allay relegation fears, they are currently only out of the dreaded drop zone on goal difference having claimed just four wins in twenty PL games so far this season.

Newcastle have been in phenomenal form, having won five of their last six league matches, scoring fifteen points from a possible eighteen and scoring seventeen goals while conceding five. In all competitions, including League Cup victories over Brentford and Arsenal, as well as an FA Cup victory over Bromley, United have won eight in a row. We will finish this series of midweek fixtures between fourth and eighth place in the championship depending on results elsewhere.

Wolves have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six league matches and they find themselves dangerously close to the relegation zone. They enjoyed a brief reprieve in the FA Cup when a 2-1 victory at Bristol City at the weekend sealed a place in the fourth round. They will finish our match between sixteenth and nineteenth place in the championship.

Newcastle’s final league game seems a long way away now after the Cup exploits. The Toon held on after conceding an early goal to beat Tottenham 2-1. Strikes from Gordon and Isak secured all three points and NUFC’s fifth consecutive league victory. Since then, Newcastle United have also struggled in two other competitions, beating Arsenal 2-0 in the League Cup (scorers from Isak and Gordon) and Bromley 3-1 in the FA Cup. Goals from Miley, Gordon and Osula sealed our most recent victory, although they trailed early on when Bromley took a surprising lead in the seventh minute.

Wolves’ last league game was at home to Nottingham Forest and they were soundly beaten by the surprise package of the season so far. A 3-0 home defeat was far from a good year for a Wolves side who have struggled for consistency this season and could well be heading into a long, difficult battle against relegation over the coming months . In the cup they found themselves 2-0 down at Bristol City on Saturday before conceding just before half-time to set up a nervy second half. There were to be no more goals at Ashton Gate, meaning Wolves have the welcome distraction of a draw against Blackburn Rovers in the next round.

Newcastle have won their last three home matches with Wolves.

Wolves have failed to win in their last five visits to St James’ Park, drawing twice and tasting defeat three times.

Newcastle have hosted Wolves nine times in the Premier League, winning four, drawing four and losing just once.

Newcastle have never failed to find the net at home against Wolves in the Premier League.

In April 2011, Alan Pardew’s Newcastle were on course for a mid-table finish when former Sunderland manager Mick McCarthy brought his Wolves side to St James’ Park desperate for a victory that would take them out of the relegation zone. Newcastle started the game strongly and goals from Kevin Nolan and Shola Ameobi gave us a 2-0 lead at half time and looked quite comfortable. When Peter Lovenkrands made it 3-0 early in the second half, it looked like the points were all but confirmed. Wolves had other ideas however and pulled one back almost immediately to make it 3-1 with over half an hour to play.

This is the moment of a long period of pressure from the visitors, who hit the post before clearing on the line. It was only a matter of time before they could reduce their delays further. Luckily, they couldn’t find the net again and the only extra goal came from someone who had a history of scoring brilliant goals against Wolves. When Jonas Gutierrez collected the ball on the left wing, he had no intention of heading it into the corner. He beat two men with some fancy footwork before curling a glorious effort into the bottom corner to finish the game in added time. Final score Newcastle 4-1 Wolves.

Darren Peacock was signed to NUFC by Kevin Keegan in 1994 and quickly became an integral part of the entertainers era. He played over a hundred games for the Toon and was never afraid to work hard while more illustrious colleagues bombed. He is fondly remembered for opening the score with a header in our famous 5-0 win over Man U in 1996. He is still active as a speaker at various conferences and is still very pro-NUFC when speaking talks about his time on Tyneside.

He played four times for Wolves while on loan from Blackburn in 2000, but unfortunately suffered a spinal injury against Fulham, which made him extremely lucky not to end up paralyzed and left him led to his retirement.

Temuri Ketsbaia was signed by Kenny Dalglish in 1997 and quickly made a name for himself, scoring a last-minute winner against Croatians Zagreb to secure a place in the Champions League group stage. He had a knack for scoring late goals and hit the headlines again in January 1998 when he scored an injury-time winner at home to Bolton and celebrated in rather bizarre style by surrounding the advertising boards in a rage , relief, anger and joy. immediately!

He signed for Wolves in 2000 and spent a season at Molineux, making twenty-four appearances and scoring three goals.

Carl Cort joined United from Wimbledon in 2000 and scored just minutes into his home debut with a towering header against Derby County. Unfortunately, he was plagued by injuries for four years and we never really got to see the best of him at Newcastle. He scored an absolute goal at home to Everton in a 6-2 win in 2002, but it was a rare highlight of his time as an NUFC striker.

He fared rather better at Wolves, scoring thirty-one times in ninety-four appearances during his three seasons there.

Eddie Howe after a 3-1 FA Cup win over Bromley:

“We wanted to qualify and win the match, and the attitude of the players must be good. If the attitude is not right, you will not succeed. We’re still proud of it and I think the guys responded really well. It wasn’t a perfect performance from us, we have no illusions and we know we can do much better, but we showed the mental qualities needed and we had enough quality to qualify. It was important that we reacted by conceding. The longer this goes on, the more anxiety can set in. It was a great response to that goal. It was a real test of courage for us. It was really nice to see us equalize early and I think it calmed us down. From there we were pretty good.

Victor Periera after a 2-1 win at Bristol City, also in the FA Cup:

“In the first half we had the opportunity to score more goals, and with 3-0 we may close the match, but at half time they left with confidence, and here we left with some doubts. To close this match, we had to score the third goal. In the second half we had two chances to score the third goal, but they had quality and they started to believe it, and we didn’t have the quality, in my opinion, to keep the ball with us, and in the transition game. it is difficult to control the game. While we were supposed to keep the ball, we lost it.

The Newcastle United Fans’ Foodbank will once again be collecting opposite the Gallowgate and will gratefully receive food, cash and toiletries for those in need. Non-perishable foods and drinks (such as noodles, pasta, rice, canned goods, soups, cereals, syrup, long-life milk, etc.) as well as toiletries such as shower gel, shampoo , toothpaste and sanitary products are particularly interesting. . Please give whatever you can, any donation is much appreciated.

Newcastle’s confidence will be very high ahead of this one.

Eight deserved wins on the bounce is a brilliant achievement and I think we will be too strong for a struggling Wolves team.

Eddie Howe had the luxury of resting Isak on Sunday, but our talismanic striker will be back in full force and I fancy him to score both goals in this one. Newcastle 2-0 Wolves.
