Thirteen soldiers died in a fire and subsequent explosion at a military warehouse in the eastern province of Holguin more than a week ago.
HAVANA, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) — Thirteen soldiers died in a fire and subsequent explosion at a military warehouse in the eastern province of Holguin more than a week ago, said Wednesday the Cuban Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (Minfar).
Investigations and analyzes carried out by specialists showed that there was no possibility of survival at the site, which is located in the community of Melones in the municipality of Rafael Freyre, according to a statement from Minfar.
“After several days of intensive work, it was determined that the probable cause of the incident is linked to an electrical failure caused by a short circuit inside the installation,” he said.
The press release specifies that access to the site remains impossible due to the extreme complexity of the terrain, the accumulation of toxic gases, serious structural damage and the risk of collapse.
