In the last century, musicology talked a lot about the forms of the evolution of the processes of certain composers or the extra-musical models of the musical thought of another. But since the beginning of the 21st century, musicology has spoken more about music from the point of view of the listener. Martin Kaltenecker suggested that eight other musicologists search for texts that talk about listening, from Antiquity to today. The result is an anthology of more than 1,300 pages co-published by Editions MF and Editions de la Philharmonie de Paris. Isabelle His for the 16th century and Theodora Psychoyou for the 17th century note in particular the tendencies towards comparison between music with a large audience and music with a smaller audience, between music from the North and music from the South.
