RedNotes, the new TikTok?
TikTok’s Chinese owners, Bytedance, are facing a possible shutdown of the world’s most famous app. And for good reason, the American government is forcing TikTok to sever all these ties with its parent company based in China by mid-January.
Otherwise, a law signed by President Joe Biden will come into force, then blocking Tiktok nationwide. This decision was taken following numerous concerns from the government regarding user data potentially shared with the Chinese government.
However, Bytedance assured the opposite and opposed this measure by invoking the first amendment : one that protects freedom of expression. The White House then responded by explaining that the goal was not to ban Tiktokbut to end Chinese ownership.
This ban on the application could occur around January 19, 2025. All that remains is no longer much time for ByteDance to find a buyer in the United States. Unless the new President of the United States and Elon Musk get involved.
