In 2024, consumer prices in France increased by 2.0% on average annually, showing a slowdown after two years of high inflation.

PARIS, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) — In 2024, consumer prices in France increased by 2.0% on an annual average, showing a slowdown after two years of high inflation, the National Institute of Statistics said Tuesday and economic studies (INSEE).

The increase in food prices slowed sharply, from 11.8% in 2023 to 1.4%, according to INSEE statistics, while those of manufactured products showed stability, with an increase of 0%, compared to 3.5% in 2023.

Energy prices and those of services are also slowing, with an increase of 2.3% and 2.7%, after 5.6% and 3.0% in 2023, respectively.

According to INSEE, tobacco prices are the only ones to have increased in 2024, with an annual average increase of 10.3% after 8.0% in 2023.

Monthly data published on the same day by INSEE showed that in December 2024, consumer prices in France increased by 1.3% over one year and by 0.2% over one month.

INSEE also forecast in its latest economic report that inflation in France will continue to fall in 2025, with an expected level of 1% in June over twelve months.
