Even if we don’t yet know much officially about the console that will replace the Nintendo Switch, it is obvious that its announcement is imminent. According to Nintendo themselves, the announcement should be made before the end of the current fiscal year, i.e. before March 31, 2025. But as of last week, many leaks and other very credible rumors have started to invade the web. So, we might well have already seen what the new console will look like, which would feature a brand new button.
A new button on the Nintendo Switch 2?
If you have closely followed the news surrounding Nintendo in recent days, you have surely read several articles and other posts on social networks concerning Nintendo’s next machine. While none of these can be 100% confirmed at this time, it must be admitted that these were certainly the most credible leaks and rumors to date. One of the most major leaks concerned the 3D model of the console itself revealed at CES by accessories manufacturer Genki.
If the company in question has since backpedaled, it is currently impossible to know if they simply fear the wrath of Nintendo’s lawyers or if they simply lied to attract buzz. In the meantime, their story seemed extremely credible and the Nintendo Switch 2 that they unveiled offered some new features, including a new button with a mysterious purpose stamped with the letter “C”. Since then, many theories have emerged as to the functionalities it would enable.
A new feature could be hidden behind this C button
If we are to believe the 3D model of the Nintendo Switch 2 shared by prop maker Genki at CES, Nintendo’s new console should offer a C button near the Home button on the right Joy-Con. Recently, members of a Discord server dedicated to gleaning information on this machine have set about a little of my dateand they could well have discovered the function of this famous button. According to them, the latest version of the Switch OS deployed on the current console includes references to a still unknown feature called “Campus”. You will have understood, it is indeed the latter which could be accessible via the new C button.
Still according to dataminers, the “Campus” project would correspond to the establishment of a new group chat system (Group Chat in English) and discussion vocale (Vocal Chat in English) directly on the console. The latter would only be accessible to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers and could bring together groups of 12 people. A theory that holds up knowing that players of Nintendo’s multiplayer games like Smash Bros Ultimate or Splatoon 3 have always requested this functionality, but which would go against Nintendo’s desire to make a console suitable for children. Anyway, even if this rumor is very credible, we remind you once again thatit is currently not confirmed by Nintendo. With any luck, the console should be announced soon by the Japanese manufacturer and everyone should see a little more clearly.
