Match: Espaly/PSG (2-4), individual performances

PSG came close to disaster but ultimately escaped against the Espaly amateurs (4-2) thanks to a better managed end of the match. A look back at the individual performances of the Parisians on a case-by-case basis.

Holds: The Spaniard was entitled to his first start of the season and it is an understatement to say that he did not repay the trust placed in his coach. Frankly very doubtful on the first goal where his small size seems to play a bad trick on him, he is not perfect on the second either by pushing back into the feet of the opposing attacker. If he managed a good exit away from his goal in the first period, he signed a much less convincing one at the end of the game with a non-whistled hand which was nevertheless existing. In the competition with Donnarumma and Safonov, he is very far away.

Zague: Two months after his last start on the left against , he was relaunched on the right side and it was not very conclusive overall. Caught behind his back on the opening score and not very comfortable defensively in general, he especially struggled to be sharp offensively. The duo with Doué at his side never worked and he was too often trapped offside. On the other hand, he was involved in the equalizer at 1-1 from an interesting cross.

Nuno Mendes replaced him at the break and he obviously brought a little punch on the left, speed too. Offensively, he didn’t succeed at everything but his rush on the third goal did a lot of good and helped save his team before allowing them to make the break by partly causing the final penalty. Not everything was so positive though and he was completely absent from the 2-2 equalizer which plunged into doubt.

Tape : The surprise starting eleven discovered the professional world this Wednesday and he had accelerated training, going through all the states as the match progressed. With the ball, he was very responsible and responded well overall, signing some nice individual actions. On the other hand, he misses his last restart, which results in the 2-2 goal, and it is moreover in the defensive part of his role that there is reason to complain. Faced with a hungry opponent, the very young 17-year-old central defender was often on the edge in duels, sometimes catching up with nothing. And while his second half was calmer than the first, he missed out at the worst time. His partners have compensated for this final error and he will therefore be able to enjoy his first, far from being uninteresting.

On it probably replaced him a little too late, appearing neutral with the ball at his feet and a little hesitant on aerial balls that were lying around.

Hernandez : Aligned in the left axis, the returner had a frankly worrying match for a player of his supposed caliber. Facing fifth division opponents, he was even put in difficulty on his greatest strength, defensive duels, and only gained the upper hand over time when the amateurs were exhausted. His second half was therefore better defensively than the first, but he did not do better with the ball.

João Neves: Once again positioned at left back at kick-off, the Portuguese found himself completely stuck on his side, like a prisoner between the touchline and the opposing axial surplus. Trying to move but not inspired, he only stood out with a header from a corner which he should have sent to the back. Switched to the right in the second half, he was certainly warned for one too many faults but it was better overall and he superbly launched Barcola on the 2-2 then Doué at the very end of the match when the winger found the post.

Zaire-Emery: Expected on one side, it was ultimately in a very central role that the young midfielder found himself. He was barely visible during the first part of the match, not offering much, but his equalizer before the break was already worth a lot while Paris was struggling a lot. This kicked off his match a bit and he then played a more dynamic game, his forward runs doing good to the Parisian game. Not enough to jump to the ceiling though.

Fabian Ruiz : Captain of PSG for the first time, his match will not go down in history and it logically only lasted one half. Vaguely on the left side, stepping on toes with Neves, never in front, incapable of giving the slightest rhythm to the match with his passes, his only good action was this goal refused for a preliminary offside.

Vitinha replaced him and he also took the armband. Facing the opposing block, he tried to find space through the pass and succeeded a few times, but it was not really for his offensive ability that he was in the spotlight. On the other hand, he brought a certain balance to the Parisian midfielder and had a good defensive presence, annihilating several good counterattacks before restarting well.

Mayulu : A few days after a brilliant match against Saint-Etienne, he was completely overtaken by fifth division amateurs. Still physically tender, he was put under pressure by the old opposing veterans and never knew how to get into the direction of the game and the goal. Rarely found, hardly sharp or impactful with the ball at his feet, he played a totally dull game with the exception of an interesting low strike.

Lee Kang-in replaced him at half-time and, in a right midfielder role, he played his typical match as a player in difficulty against low blocks: lots of touches of the ball, few differences made and a constant search for his left foot to the detriment of speed in the game. A good pass for Doué and an interesting long shot in the idea despite everything.

Gifted : Luis Enrique had placed him back on the right side and his first period there was complicated, in particular because he played a lot on his own, which generated significant waste despite some nice actions. He also misses a goal ball at 0-1 and this lack of realism will be the major theme of his match with another huge miss at 1-1 then a post in front of the empty goal at 4-2. Fortunately, he had scored the 2-1 goal in the meantime. On the left side in the second half, his power hurt the amateurs in front of him but there were also many of his dribbles that did not go through. Unlike others, however, he always tried and never hid, even if he was sometimes annoying with his individual attempts.

Ramos : Once again starting at the forefront, the Portuguese certainly closed the scoring with a well-taken penalty but his match was in line with that against Saint-Etienne, therefore terribly disappointing. Impossible to find in the middle of the opposing five-man defense, he began to break away and offer solutions further down the field to his partners but he was only too rarely relevant in his choices of play. But the major concern still remains the inability of his partners to find him in the surface, or his own to stand out…

Barcola: Lined up on the left, the winger really struggled to get his game going and we had to wait a good half hour to see him make a difference with his dribbling, with Mayulu close to scoring following a big acceleration on his part. Passed to the right at the break but regularly close to the axis, he alternated the good and the less good. A real technical waste when he got closer to the center of the field, he opposed very good calls from deep, like on the 2-2, and a real presence in the area since it was he who scored the 3- 2 up close. A goal that is very expensive and will do him good for his morale. Not everything is perfect, but it’s getting better.
