FC Espaly/PSG – The Parisians’ notes: Barcola and Mendes save from embarrassment

This Wednesday, as part of of the round of 16 of the Coupe de 2024-2025 Saint-Germain faced FC Espaly at Stade Marcel-Michelin. After a match where the Red and Blue made too many mistakes, they still won 2-4. Here are our notes from the Parisians.

Guardian –

Arnau Tenas (2) – He didn’t have much to do…and they were goals. He is completely overwhelmed (and a little strangely) on the 1st, he poorly repels the shot on the second goal.

Defenders –

Yoram Zague (4) – It’s not a “bad” match, but it’s still not very good. We had known him to be more relevant in his climbs, spoiled by offside. The fact of not having played for a long time may have weighed… Replaced at half-time by Nuno Mendes (6), he multiplied the races in order to offensively finally deliver the decisive cross for the 2-3.

Axel Tape (4) – Some very nice passes, good interventions, but also a big mistake on the 2nd goal conceded. Replaced in the 71st minute by Willian Pacho.

Lucas Hernandez (6) – In a PSG that was sometimes too crumbly, it was often solid.

João Neves (6,5) – In a timid PSG, he was invaluable with his efforts and some very nice passes. Including the penultimate on 1-2.

Backgrounds –

Fabian Ruiz (4) – Some good passes, but we obviously expect more from the Spanish international. Replaced at half-time by Vitinha (7), his entry did a lot of good in the rhythm and passes created chances.

Sleepy Mayulu (4.5) – Some incisive actions, but not enough in a PSG which needed to score.. Replaced at half-time by Lee Kang-In (3), some nice passes, but also the slip which led to the loss of the ball on the 2nd goal conceded. We expect more from him in creation.

Warren Zaire-Emery (5.5) – Always serious, we would like to see him a little more creative in passing or shooting. But he nicely equalized at 1-1 with his left foot.

Attackers –

Désiré Doué (5.5) – He brought a little pep and scored in this match with a PSG which lacked inspiration.

Gonçalo Ramos (4.5) – Lots of calls that deserve better, but in the end he doesn’t manage to weigh enough and get the goals. At least he frees up space for his teammates and never forgets to defend.

Bradley Barcola (5,5) – Inspirations, an assist and a goal, except he also has waste. We feel a lack of confidence. Let’s hope that the goal at the end of the match will do him the most good.

Coach –

Luis Enrique (5) – It is logical to focus on this match, but the team must still master its subject. The management of the goalkeeper, for example, was not convincing. But there is qualification.
