Ice hockey: Biel wins in Langnau, Ajoie falls in Rapperswil

Not in its best form (four victories in the last twelve championship matches), HC Bienne took three important points on Wednesday during the 37th day of the National League.

The Zealanders won on the ice of Langnau (1-5), a direct opponent in the race for the play-ins and who is currently experiencing a big decline, with now five defeats in a row in the championship.

This important victory gives a little room for maneuver to the Biennois, who are now in 9th place in the ranking. With three points ahead of the 11th place occupied by Ambri, Bienne must now string together good performances. To be confirmed from Thursday evening at the Tissot Arena in the derby against Lausanne HC (8 p.m.).

Clearly, the Rapperswil ice rink is not suitable for HC Ajoie. Wednesday during the 37th day of the National League, Greg Ireland’s men suffered another defeat at the St. Galler Kantonalbank Arena (3-1).

Since his return to the National League in 2021, HCA has never had success with the Lakers, in nine attempts. We have to go back to January 31, 2018 to find the last Ajoulote victory on the ice of Saint-Gallois (1-2 ap), when the two teams were still playing in the Swiss League.

This defeat prevents Ajoie (14th and last) from reducing its gap with Lugano (13th). The Ajoulots are still six points behind the Ticino, who have one game less. They will have the opportunity to get back on track on Friday by hosting Fribourg-Gottéron (7:45 p.m.).
