While the awards season is disrupted in Los Angeles by the fires ravaging the city, the British Film Academy (Bafta) unveiled this Wednesday, January 15, in London, the nominations for the British Academy Film Awards. The British thriller Conclave tops the nominations with 12 mentions, just ahead Emilia Perez which continues to feature prominently, after dominating the Golden Globe nominations. Jacques Audiard’s film was nominated eleven times, including for best film, best direction, best adapted screenplay, best actress in a leading role (Karla Sofía Gascón), and best actress in a supporting role (Zoe Saldaña and Selena Gomez).
Emilia Perez is not the only French production or co-production to stand out among the nominees: Flow is present twice (best animated film and the newly created category of best family and children’s film), All We Imagine as Light is nominated for best foreign language film, Santosh (co-produced by Haut et Court) nominated in the best British first film category and Kensuke’s Kingdom (co-produced by Le Pacte) present in the best family and children’s film category.
Also note five nominations for The Substance including best direction and best original screenplay for Coralie Fargeat, best sound and best makeup and hairstyles.
