Drowning: Swiss woman dies in accident in Colombia

A Swiss woman died accidentally in Colombia. According to local authorities, this 56-year-old woman drowned on Tuesday in a river near the village of Minca, in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

Authorities say the river has risen sharply due to recent rains, which may have contributed to the incident.

Minca is a popular tourist destination in Colombia. The Swiss woman was in a swimsuit when she died, as shown in photos published in local media.

The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) is aware of the incident, it announced to Keystone-ATS on Wednesday. The Swiss embassy in Bogota is in contact with the local authorities. Investigations are underway, adds the DFAE.
