Resignation: Viola Amherd: “Important milestones have been laid”

After announcing her resignation, Federal Councilor Viola Amherd said she was convinced that she had achieved some important milestones during her tenure. However, everything has not been perfect and there is still work to be done for his successor.

Speaking to the media in Bern, she said she would keep fond memories of her presidential year, which has just ended. The objectives she had set for this presidential year were achieved.

Concerning her performance report, she smilingly asked the journalists to take this assessment. However, she highlighted several positive points in her Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sports (DDPS).

And to cite the increase in financial resources for the army, the creation of the State Secretariat for Security Policy (SEPOS), international cooperation in defense matters, a study on discrimination and sexualized violence within the army or even a strengthening of ethics in the sporting field.

The Valaisanne said she considers the growing polarization in politics and the fact that particular interests are increasingly imposing themselves as a simple exercise of power as challenges.
