we read “The Year of Thirteen Moons”, his diary from the year 2000

Franz Bartelt is a literary acrobat. It can be found in all registers, short stories, novels, thrillers, serials… Although for a long time he cared little about being published, success, from the 1990s, allowed him to devote himself to writing. The Ardennes still has more than a hundred titles. He cultivates a slightly sarcastic distance, a diabolical humor, always elegant, sometimes grating, which we read in “Les Bottes rouge”, prize for black humor 2000 or his indescribable “Antics”.

For more than forty years, he has been filling notebooks, a sort of journal on modern times, whose publication L’Arbre vengeur began with “Almanac des uns, des unes et des autres”, followed by this opus, “L’Année of the Thirteen Moons” dedicated to the year 2000. No need to ask the author to take himself seriously, he would laugh in your face, what interests him is the absurd which he handles with incredible virtuosity. So, is a year with thirteen moons cursed?

“The Year of the Thirteen Moons”, by Franz Bartelt, ed. The Vengeful Tree, 350 p., €23.
