Runny Bunny is a little indie game halfway between puzzle and action, where a rabbit doped with adrenaline decides to run straight into the crowd (or rather into walls or deadly traps). We put on our virtual sneakers and off we go for a marathon… in a straight line.
In Runny Bunny, you control a hyperactive rabbit that runs straight as an arrow. No zigzags, no U-turns, just straight lines at a speed that would make a Formula 1 car pale. Your role? Anticipate your journey by using strategy, but also reflexes, to prevent it from turning into a stew after hitting spikes or arrows.
The first 10 levels? A walk in the park in a pixelated meadow. The next 90? A dive into hell where every miscalculated move turns your adventure into a festival of hairy explosions. Prepare your nerves, because the traps, enemies and other evil gadgets will only multiply.
Here, no need to juggle 36 buttons: the directional arrows are enough. And that’s where Runny Bunny scores points. With precise controls and a rabbit as responsive as a bouncing ball, you’ll quickly get hooked on the game. Despite its simplicity, the gameplay is well thought out, with levels that gradually add new challenges to keep the player on their toes.
Visually, don’t expect a work of art. The pixel art is sober, almost crude, but it does the job. The settings go from verdant to sinister, and the minimalist animations are enough to make everything readable, which is crucial given the speed of the rabbit. On the other hand, don’t look for visual wonder: here, it’s efficiency above all.
If the gameplay is invigorating, the soundtrack is conversely minimalist. A single piece of music plays in a loop, accompanied by some not really memorable sound effects. We end up lowering the volume to avoid sound overdose, but fortunately, this doesn’t detract from the overall experience.
With its 100 levels, Runny Bunny offers a respectable lifespan. The difficulty increases gradually, and each victory provides that little thrill of satisfaction. Be careful though: the final levels could well transform your inner calm into a volcano of frustration. But if you like a challenge, that’s a bonus.
Runny Bunny is a cool game that skillfully mixes thinking and reflexes. If you are looking for an unpretentious but effective game to occupy your evenings or challenge your strategic mind in speed mode, this is a good choice. But don’t expect a video game revolution: it’s more of a carrot than a gastronomic feast.
