Eighth finalist last year, Arthur Cazaux will not make it past the second round of the Australian Open this time. Qualification, on the other hand, for Alexander Zverev.

In 2024, Arthur Cazaux delighted French fans, reaching the round of 16 of the Australian Open for his very first participation. This year, the Frenchman will not make it past the second round. This Wednesday, the 78th player in the world was eliminated by the British Jacob Fearnley, 92nd player in the world, in four sets (3-6, 7-5, 6-2, 6-3) and 2h59 of play. In the first set, the Frenchman made the entry break. After a double-break at 4-1, the Habs lost one of their advantages in the process, while they served, for the first time, to win this first round. It was only a postponement and it was on his next throw-in that Arthur Cazaux finally achieved his goals (6-3). In the second set, after a double break exchange, first from 1-1, then at 3-4 in favor of the Briton, the 78th player in the world gave up his final serve, only to see his opponent of the day equalize, at the same time, one set everywhere (7-5).

Zverev chained breaks

In the third round, the Frenchman was broken from the start, then a second time at 2-5. Which therefore allowed his competitor to lead two sets to one (6-2). Finally, in the third and final round, Jacob Fearnley only needed a break, at 2-1, to then conclude this match (6-3). His next opponent will be the German Alexander Zverev, 2nd player in the world and seeded n°2, who quietly dismissed the Spaniard Pedro Martinez44th player in the world, in three sets (6-1, 6-4, 6-1) and 1h56 of play. After two breaks in the first set, the German managed another in a second set which lasted longer longer than the other two (53 minutes versus 35 and 28 minutes). Finally, in the third and final set, this time, Alexander Zverev took three of the four services from his opponent of the day (6-1). Among the women, it also goes for the Spaniard Paula Badosa, seeded n°11.
