Who can still afford a new car today? In fact, many French people are dissuaded, and this trend can be seen in the sales figures for the automobile market, which fell further to -3.2% in 2024. Why? Certainly because of the ever-higher prices. The fault, according to the manufacturers’ arguments, is inflation, the skyrocketing costs of energy, raw materials, or new European environmental standards requiring significant technological investments. But also, undoubtedly, to the increase in their margins, which these manufacturers have initiated. Yes, that’s a lot, but that’s why our vehicles are becoming more and more expensive.

The average prices of a new private vehicle in have increased by 3% in 2024 compared to 2023, according to our new barometer and data provided exclusively by the firm AAAData to Capital. These prices exceeded a new threshold at 36,712 euros, compared to 35,748 euros a year earlier. Importantly, our partner’s estimates are based on the manufacturers’ catalog prices, before negotiations at the dealership. But also before possible addition of options. Because when we buy a new car, we like to add some equipment and the paint color that goes well. The bill can therefore be even higher…
