A “sadly iconic” photo or a fake, probably generated by artificial intelligence? It is the second option which is the right one for this photo of an Oscar, which would have miraculously survived the fires which destroyed several neighborhoods of Los Angeles in the house of the actor Robert Redford.
Since Monday, the image has been shared by several Internet users on Facebook. One of them points to “a sadly iconic new photo” of these fires, specifying that the Oscar is the only thing that remains of the American actor’s house.
The actor received the precious statuette in 1981 for the film People like the others. In 2002, he was also awarded an honorary Oscar. Some Internet users add that it was Robert Redford himself who shared the image.
The photo has been liked at least ten thousand times on Facebook and has also been shared on X and TikTok.
FAKE OFF
Robert Redford, 88, does not have a social media account. Neither the actor nor any media outlet has confirmed that a property from the director of The Man Who Whispered in the Ear of Horses burned in the Los Angeles fires.
It is also not confirmed that the American owns property in the Californian city. In December, he did sell a house in California, but it was in the north of the state, near San Francisco. With this sale, Robert Redford and his wife explained to the magazine People wanting to spend more time at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The fires in Los Angeles ravaged the neighborhoods of Pacific Palisades, Altadena, Sylmar and Ventura County and caused, according to a latest report, 25 deaths.
