Last December, the developers of France Identity revealed the upcoming arrival of a significant improvement for the application allowing in particular to connect to various services thanks to FranceConnect. On January 15, that’s it, this improvement is deployed via an update of the Android and iOS versions.

Much faster and more convenient authentication

Until now, to identify yourself with FranceConnect on one of the more than 1,400 compatible services using the application, you had to systematically take out your identity card (only the most recent ones) and scan the NFC chip. But today, after a few weeks of testing, this step is history: it is possible to go through unlocking your smartphone instead.

To configure this, however, a (single) configuration phase is necessary. Once the France Identity app has been updated, click on the “the application is evolving” notification and follow the following steps: scan the front of your identity card, scan the NFC chip and finally use the configured unlocking of your smartphone (face, fingerprint, diagram, etc.). From now on, to authenticate to a service with FranceConnect via France Identity, you no longer need to scan your card, your face or your finger is enough.

A new reason to update your identity card

Please note, however, that to connect to a service via FranceConnect+ (My Training Account, INPI, Ma Prime Renov), scanning the NFC chip of your CNIe remains mandatory. If you still have the old identity card without an NFC chip, if it was issued to you between 2016 and 2021 you should soon be able to request early conversion to the new format thanks to a new dedicated pattern.
