NHL game highlights: Kyle Connor with 1st period hat trick

Kyle Connor had a resounding start to the game on Tuesday for the Winnipeg Jets who disposed of the Vancouver Canucks by a score of 6 to 1.

The Manitoba forward recorded a hat trick in the first period. Only 6 minutes and 38 seconds passed between the American’s three goals. This is the 3rd fastest hat trick in Jets history.

Gabriel Vilardi was not left out as he collected assists on each of his teammate’s goals. He first obtained his 20th assist of the campaign on Connor’s first goal which opened the scoring just before the seventh minute of play.

A little more than six minutes later, Connor jumped on a loose puck in the slot to bring his tally to 25 successes this season. Connor then knew how to distance himself from his rivals, including Tyler Myers who quickly gave up in defensive withdrawal, and the attacker served a magnificent feint to Kevin Lankinen to complete his hat trick after 13 minutes 37 seconds of elapsed during the initial commitment.

Connor stands out this season with the leaders of the Central division. He brought his total to 59 points with an assist on Mark Scheifele’s net.

Neal Pionk and Nino Niederreiter also beat Lankinen who finished his difficult evening of work with six goals allowed on 33 shots.

Connor Hellebuyck stopped 23 pucks and only gave in to Nils Hoglander.

Barron hits the mark for the Preds

Steven Stamkos provided a double and the Nashville Predators defeated the Vegas Golden Knights, 5-3.

Stamkos also took part in Filip Forsberg’s goal.

Justin Barron and Ryan O’Reilly signed the other nets for the Predators, who had lost their last two games. Barron scored his first goal in his eighth game with the Preds.

Pavel Dorofeyev scored the first hat trick of his career for Vegas. He is his team’s top scorer with 19 goals.

The Golden Knights have lost three of their last four games.

Nashville held on after taking a 4-0 lead midway through the second period.

Bourque helps the Stars defeat Toronto

Logan Stankoven scored a double and added an assist to help the Dallas Stars defeat the Maple Leafs 4-1 in Toronto.

The Texas team thus concluded a five-game trip with a 4-1 record, while the local favorites suffered a third loss in a row for the first time this season.

Quebecer Mavrik Bourque and Matt Duchene also threaded the needle in victory. Duchene finished the game with three points. Jake Oettinger blocked 27 pucks.

Auston Matthews was the first scorer of the match. He collected a point in a 12th straight game against the Stars, a streak that began on February 7, 2017.

Lehkonen brings the Avalanche into the fold

Devon Toews scored 4:23 into overtime after Artturi Lehkonen tied the game in the third period and the Colorado Avalanche opened a five-game home stretch with a 3-2 win over the Rangers. New York, to Denver.

It was a 14th come-from-behind win for the Avalanche this season.

Toews accepted a pass from Nathan MacKinnon and took a one-timer to deceive Igor Shesterkin. Earlier in the overtime period, the Avalanche ended a shorthanded sequence after a penalty to Mikko Rantanen during which Mackenzie Blackwood blocked a Mika Zibanejad breakaway.

Parker Kelly scored in the first period for the Avalanche. Lehkonen tied the game as the crowd favorites were down to six skaters.

Cale Makar had an assist to reach the 50-point plateau for the fifth time in his career. No defender had achieved the feat in the history of the organization.

Blackwood made 27 saves.

Sam Carrick scored a goal and added an assist for the Rangers, and Adam Edstrom also scored. Shesterkin finished the game with 23 saves.

The Sharks slow down the Wings’ streak

William Eklund had a goal and two assists and the San Jose Sharks ended the Red Wings’ seven-game winning streak with a 6-3 win in Detroit.

Nico Sturm scored shorthanded. Jan Rutta, Mikael Granlund, Tyler Toffoli and Mario Ferraro also moved the ropes for the Sharks, who signed their first victory in four games.

Rookie Macklin Celebrini set up two goals in just this fourth victory in 18 games for the Sharks. Alexandar Georgiev made 25 saves.

Vladimir Tarasenko broke his 18-game scoreless streak with two goals for the Red Wings. His last goal was on December 1, against the Vancouver Canucks.

Lucas Raymond also scored and Ville Husso stopped 18 pucks.

Capitals shut out Ducks

Ethen Frank collected at least one point in his first three games in the National Hockey League, this time scoring a goal in a 3-0 victory for the Capitals against the Anaheim Ducks in Washington.

Frank now has two goals and an assist since his debut on Friday.

Logan Thompson recorded his first shutout of the season with an 18-save performance.

Brandon Duhaime and John Carlson also scored for the Capitals, who won a second straight game and collected at least one point in an eighth consecutive meeting (5-0-3).

Alexander Ovechkin was cleared from the scoresheet.

John Gibson stopped 22 pucks in front of the Ducks cage, who suffered their fourth loss in five games.

The Jackets aren’t slowing down

Kent Johnson and Kirill Marchenko hit the target in the shootout, allowing the Columbus Blue Jackets to win 3-2 against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Blue Jackets are going through their best period of the season, having won five games in a row.

This is the team’s most successful streak since the 2019-20 season.

Zach Werenski scored twice in regular time for Columbus.

With 50 points, he is the most productive defenseman in the NHL this season.

Bobby Brink and Owen Tippett responded. The Flyers were looking for a third straight victory.

Pittsburgh struggles in front of its supporters

Eeli Tolvanen broke the tie midway through the third period and the Seattle Kraken got the better of the Pittsburgh Penguins, 4-2.

His teammate Jamie Oleksiak had created the deadlock 49 seconds earlier.

Chandler Stephenson scored shorthanded for the Kraken, whose last goal came from Kaapo Kakko (into an empty net).

Bryan Rust and Philip Tomasino fought back for the Penguins, who have been beaten in their last three games.

Back after a four-game absence (upper body), Evgeni Malkin was complicit in Rust’s goal. Sidney Crosby temporarily retreated to the locker room after receiving a double check, but returned to the game. Waiting for a penalty to be awarded on the sequence, Rust rattled the ropes.

Pittsburgh finished a homestand with a 1-3-1 record, heading into a seven-game trip in 12 days.

A goalkeeper duel in New Jersey

Anton Lundell scored the key goal in the third round of the shootout and the Florida Panthers had the last laugh against the New Jersey Devils, 2-1.

The score of the session was 1-1 after the successes of Paul Cotter and Aleksander Barkov in the first round.

Spencer Knight made 26 saves in a winning cause.

Jacob Markstrom stopped 27 shots for the Devils, who had won six straight at home.

The Panthers’ Jesper Boqvist scored early in the third period, but Nico Hischier tied the game 1:46 later.

Captain of the Devils, Hischier reached the 20-goal mark for a fourth straight season.

He is in five such campaigns since New Jersey drafted him first overall in 2017.

His personal high is 31 goals, in 2022-23.

Binnington se charge des Flames

Radek Faksa scored the decisive goal in the third period and the St. Louis Blues defeated the Calgary Flames, 2-1.

Faksa deflected a Tyler Tucker shot midway through the period, scoring his first goal since mid-November.

Colton Parayko scored the other goal for the Blues.

Jordan Binnington made 26 saves, bested only by Kevin Bahl.

The Flames were trying to earn their fourth straight victory.

The two clubs will face each other again on Thursday, once again in Missouri.
