Bayrou’s general policy speech, motion of censure… Relive the highlights of this Tuesday, January 14

Here is what to remember from the Prime Minister’s announcements to MPs:

• Put the pension reform “under construction” again

Two years after the reform adopted forceps by his predecessor Elisabeth Borne, François Bayrou « chosen to bring this subject back to work, with the social partnersfor a short time ». Immediately, the Prime Minister will ask the Court of Auditors via « a flash mission a few weeks » to present “the current and precise state of financing of the pension system”.

In parallel, “a permanent delegation will be created”indicated François Bayrou, who “will meet on Friday” this instance. He “will suggest that representatives of each organization work around the same table (…) for three monthsfrom the date of the report of the Court of Auditors ». “We can, I am convinced, seek a new path of reform,without any totem and without any taboo, not even retirement age »he assured, only « condition » not to “degrade financial balance” of the pension system.

• The urgency of adopting the 2025 budget

François Bayrou called on Parliament to “adopt without delay” the two budgets of the State and Social Security, on hold since the censorship of the Barnier government at the beginning of December. “We all pay a high price for this budgetary insecurity”underlined the Prime Minister.

• Drug reimbursement abandoned

No reduction in reimbursement for medications and medical consultations. “The dereimbursement measure” envisaged by Michel Barnier then abandoned under pressure from the RN “will not be taken back”said François Bayrou.

• Full reimbursement of wheelchairs from 2025

The Prime Minister confirmed “full reimbursement of wheelchairs from 2025”a promise made by Emmanuel Macron almost two years ago.

• Bayrou in favor of proportional representation in legislative elections

The Prime Minister put a subject close to his heart back on the table by proposing “to move forward with the reform of the voting system” in the legislative elections, with “the adoption of the proportional principle for the representation of the people” while remaining “rooted in the territories”. This reform “will force us to re-examine at the same time the question of the simultaneous exercise of local and national responsibility”he continued.

• Does Bayrou want to transform Parcoursup?

Early guidance “is an error” and Parcoursup “is a question”declared the Prime Minister, deeming it necessary to“open the doors” and to promote “reorientations, training changes”.
