Walmart gets a facelift after nearly 20 years

The big box store chain Walmart unveiled its brand new logo on Monday after nearly 20 years without changing its face, but its efforts did not really seem to convince its customers.

The last modifications to the logo date back to 2008, when the brand abandoned the star which served as a link between “Wal” and “Mart”, to combine the two words.

For now, the new logo will appear on its website and on the chain’s app, before being deployed on the front of all 10,500 stores, CNN reported.

Online, Monday’s announcement, however, did not seem to convince many Internet users, who openly mocked this “complete refresh” which aims to “reflect its evolution”, according to the words used by Walmart in its press release.

“The time and effort you have put into this radical change to your logo is admirable. This radical change is unlikely to go unnoticed. Congratulations on the thought and artistry involved in such a dramatic and bold change,” an X premiere joked.

“I bet there’s a marketing company that’s made millions off this, and I can’t stop laughing. A font change will definitely serve customers better…” noted a second user.

The move comes at a time of strong growth for the company, which was voted number one company of the year last month for its “exceptional” year in sales, profits and innovation, according to a ranking of Yahoo Finance.
