actor Adam Scott talks about the already cult series

Within a mysterious company, Mark Scout leads a team whose employees have been operated on so that their professional and private memories are completely separated. The fantasy of a terrifying artificial intelligence, even better exploited in this second season. And for Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation, Big Little Lies, Loot), which embodies it, a dream that continues.

The JDD. Severance returns three years after the first season. Fans of the series couldn’t wait any longer!

Adam Scott. People quickly accosted me in the street, sometimes several times a day, to ask me if a second season was planned and when it would be broadcast. For years, I wasn’t able to answer them because I didn’t know anything about it myself! When we started filming this series, we had no idea how it would be received by the public. We only realized that it was both bizarre and very fun to do. For the rest, we did not expect such fantastic success.

Your interpretation of Mark Scout also earned you a Golden Globe in 2023. Is this the role of your life?

Without a doubt that of my career. The one I always worked for and that was a game changer. When I first read the script, my immediate reaction was that playing this man would be the reward for my first twenty years of acting: it’s the kind of score I’ve always wanted play. So the fact that on arrival Severanceand therefore my character, to have such a global resonance seems to me to be an incredible opportunity.

The rest after this ad

The end of the last episode left us on a terrible cliffhanger. In particular, your character discovered that his wife, whom he thought was dead, was still alive. What is the common thread of this season?

Precisely, this new information and the consequences that flow from it. Mark will particularly seek to know if his outie [son identité extérieure, NDLR]is aware. And if it isn’t, how can we make it so?

Will viewers finally have the answers to the many unanswered questions?

So yes, we will start to answer some, but each solved mystery will bring its share of new questions! I think that certain answers are meant to be given, but that certain secrets must be carefully maintained. In this type of series, it is much more fun to stimulate your imagination than to get all the answers quickly.

« Ben Stiller has an eye on everything and locks in the smallest detail before we even start shooting”

The plot of Severance is based on the integration of artificial intelligence at work, in the very brains of employees. Do you think such a development is possible?

The AI phenomenon made its way into our society while we were filming the second season. It is on everyone’s mind and seems to open up so many possibilities that I think we are moving towards a world where people will be able to adapt their reality to meet their needs. Even if, for the moment, what happens next is just a big question mark.

The series is filmed by Ben Stiller, who is very popular in particularly for his comedic acting skills. Which director is he?

He’s quite simply my favorite director. As you point out, he’s an actor, so he knows how to talk to us. He knows our “language”. He has an eye on everything and locks in the smallest detail before we even start shooting. I have total confidence in him.

And not to spoil anything, the casting is exceptional…

People often say that you shouldn’t meet your idols, but that’s not true: Patricia Arquette, John Turturro, Christopher Walken have been among my favorite actors for a very long time and working alongside them is absolutely incredible.
