Play Airlines leaves the Canadian market

After Lynx last February and Swoop in 2023, this other low-cost carrier is therefore ceasing its activities on Canadian soil.

Less than two years after establishing itself there, the low-cost carrier Play Airlines is withdrawing from Canada.

From the end of April, it will stop operating its four flights per week between Hamilton, Ontario and its main base in Reykjavik, Iceland, which it uses as a stopover for trips to Europe.

The cessation comes as the low-cost carrier sector takes a nosedive, after Lynx Air filed for creditor protection last February and Swoop was integrated into WestJet’s core operations in 2023.

Play management did not respond to questions about why it was leaving or whether passengers who have reservations beyond April will be refunded.
