A video of the new President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, speaking on Monday with journalists during the holding of binding parliamentary consultations, made the rounds on social networks and sparked a flood of positive comments.

In this twenty-second video shot at the presidential palace in Baabda, we see Mr. Aoun saluting the work accomplished during the day by journalists and commenting on the situation. “I hope that the formation of the government will be easy, because we have a lot of opportunities to seize abroad. Elected last Thursday, after more than two years of presidential vacancy, Joseph Aoun, who until then served as commander-in-chief of the Lebanese army, succeeded Michel Aoun whose mandate ended in October 2022.

On X, many Internet users praised the relaxed attitude of the head of state. “He’s so friendly,” writes one user, while another notes that he’s “charismatic.”

Others make the comparison with his predecessor Michel Aoun, who became known for his dry and sometimes scolding tone with journalists. “It’s like waking up from a nightmare. We now have a respectable president who laughs with journalists, we had forgotten that this could happen. Thank you for putting us back on track with a normal life,” says a user of the platform. “He reminds me of (former president) Bachir Gemayel. May Saint Charbel protect him from Iran,” comments a user.
