Just a year ago, Michelle Gisin narrowly missed the podium when she finished fourth in her favorite slalom in Flachau due to an accident with the pole. This year, her reality is different: the 31-year-old lost 2.38 seconds to leader Katharina Liensberger after the first round. Gisin still manages to smile at the finish. This is his last slalom race. The 103rd in the World Cup in this discipline, in which she was on the podium nine times and even reached the top once. This probably won’t happen today; Gisin is 14th after the first race.

Others ensure a positive intermediate result in the Swiss camp at the night show in Salzburg: Wendy Holdener is the first pursuer of Liensberger, who is in a league of his own in the first round. The Austrian distanced her competitors by 75 hundredths or more, only two managed to keep the gap under a second: this Holdener and the Swede Sara Hector (+0.94).

Mélanie Meillard can also draw a satisfactory assessment after half-time. In fifth place, she only lost around two tenths of a second on the podium and can therefore hope for her first podium in slalom. In eighth place is her teammate Camille Rast, who started this race first, but approached her race a little too cautiously, had “too much respect”, as she told SRF , and thus lost 1.5 seconds on the leader. The Valaisan can, however, hope to regain the lead in the slalom ranking after this race, since Zrinka Ljutić, the current leader of this ranking, lost 3.7 seconds at the finish due to a big mistake and will therefore miss second sleeve.
