This Monday, January 13, a joke on the affair of the fake Brad Pitt and Anne, victim of a scam, was not unanimous on the TFC social networks. Indeed, the Toulouse Football Club wanted to make people smile by citing the news to promote the Violets’ next match, but the publication did not make everyone laugh…
The post did not stay online for long. And for good reason. This Monday, January 13, the Toulouse Football Club (TFC) caused an outcry by publishing a message intended to be humorous on X (formerly Twitter). This one, addressed to a certain “Anne” and mentioning the actor Brad Pitt, referred to a recent news item. Anne, an interior designer, is in the news right now because she revealed on the show Seven to Eight on TF1 having been the victim of a love scam. For months, she thought about talking with the famous actor, before discovering that she had been manipulated and defrauded out of 830,000 euros. This scam led the victim to severe depression and several suicide attempts.
A bad TFC joke?
The post, since deleted, read: “Hello Anne, Brad told us he would be at the Stadium on Wednesday for #TFCLAVAL. And you ? We’ll give you the link to buy your place. See you Wednesday. » Even if the TFC publication obviously sought to promote a match by playing on high-profile news, it did not please everyone and immediately provoked contrasting reactions.
Many Internet users considered this approach indecent, recalling the dramatic context of the affair : “We don’t laugh at people’s misfortunes. But it is the image of our society: there is no longer any decency. “, we can read in a comment, or even: “The lady in question attempted suicide. There’s nothing funny about it. »
For others, the club has nothing to apologize for : “It was funny… People have no sense of humor these days, we can no longer do or say anything,” comments one. “The Tweet was funny, it was humor! So no problem, keep trying to make us laugh,” adds another.
The club apologizes
Faced with controversy following its joke about Brad Pitt, TFC quickly released a statement: “We understand that our tweet may have been misinterpreted, and we sincerely apologize. We deeply regret if our comments may have conveyed a negative message. Thank you for your feedback regarding this error. We pledge to exercise even greater care and discernment in the future. »
