“Werder Bremen”

Last summer, Werder Bremen came close to qualifying for the Europa Conference League but failed despite a strong end to the season. The coveted spot ended up going to their future opponent, Heidenheim, in part because the green and whites failed to earn any points out of a possible six in two Bundesliga meetings against that opponent. If Werder fails to win again, the northern Germans will fall out of the way at the end of the first half of the season. After an extensive three-game winning streak in the Bundesliga in December, a second consecutive defeat would leave Ole Werner’s side in 10th place at mid-season. Although the European places are not far away, a victory against an opponent in deep crisis seems essential for a club which dreams of European competitions.

At least Werder will hope for a positive result, given their recent performances at home this season. Currently, the Bremen club is undefeated in four consecutive home matches in the Bundesliga (two wins, two draws). However, the reality is that Werder have only won two of their seven home games in the Bundesliga for the 2024-25 season (three draws, two defeats).

It’s entirely possible that this could be their third home win, especially since the green and whites are facing a team in the relegation zone. Additionally, the character of Ole Werner’s team is worth highlighting. So far, only Bayer Leverkusen have earned more points after conceding the first goal (nine points in total) than Werder Bremen (eight).

“Heidenheim”

Heidenheim is currently experiencing that the most difficult part is not the season following the rise to the elite of German football, but rather the one following it when it comes to staying in the league, even if the ambitions of fight for European places remains. However, a successful campaign in the top division is almost always associated not only with the joy of victories and good results, but also with player losses. The richer clubs are taking over the leaders of these teams, and everyone now takes the former promotions much more seriously.

Last summer, Heidenheim also lost several of its best players, after which Frank Schmidt’s team, under pressure from disappointed fans, had to undergo restructuring. The second problem is that participation in the Conference League forced the team to play under a more demanding schedule, which affected their results in the Bundesliga. Schmidt’s side sit bottom of the table, having amassed just 13 points from 16 league games.

“Werder Bremen” against “Heidenheim”: Projected line-up

“Werder Bremen” against “Heidenheim”: Prognostic de l’auteur

In recent days, Werder Bremen have significantly improved their performance and narrowed the gap to the European qualifying places. A victory against Heidenheim would help Ole Werner’s side move closer to the top of the table. Furthermore, Werder’s opponent is one of the worst clubs this season. I believe that the Bremen club will secure a victory at home, and I recommend betting on Werder to win with a handicap of -1.
