More than 120 civilians were killed Monday in bombings in the Dar Al-Salam area, west of Omdurman, which is part of Greater Khartoum, a Sudanese network of volunteer rescuers coordinating the front-line help, without specifying who the authors were.
Rescue workers reported a serious shortage of medical equipment, including first aid medications, and said health professionals were having difficulty providing treatment. “a large number of injured”.
More than twenty months of war
Monday’s bombings come as fighting between the army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has intensified in recent weeks after more than 20 months of war. Tens of thousands of people have been killed in the war which has left the country on the brink of famine, according to aid agencies.
The army and RSF have been accused of targeting civilians, including medical professionals, and indiscriminately bombing residential areas. Most of Omdurman is under army control, while the RSF controls Khartoum North (Bahri) just across the Nile and also part of the Greater Khartoum region.
