There were forty of them aiming to sail around the world alone, non-stop and without assistance.
Yet in the end, despite the exploit and courage of each of them at the start, only one emerged victorious in the Vendée Globe. As a reward, the latter will obtain a bonusjust like his competitors who will have crossed the finish line after him.
This will obviously be decreasing according to order of arrival.
What bonus for skippers?
For this 2024 edition, the total allocation amounts to €800,000.
The winner of this 2024 edition, Charlie Dalin, will pocket 200 000 €. Or the same amount as in 2020.
The second competitor, probably Yoann Richomme, will walk away with €140,000 and the sailor who completes the podium will win €100,000.

And for the following?
“The skippers classified beyond tenth place will share the remaining €100,000,” specifies the official regulations of the Vendée Globe, but “the share of each of them cannot be greater than the prize received by the tenth place.”
And the regulation sees far and also provides for a distribution in extreme cases.
“In the event that ten or fewer skippers are classified, the remaining amount of undistributed prizes will be distributed equally among all the classified skippers,” details the regulations.
An increasing premium
In 2016, the overall bonus was €600,000 in total to be divided between the skippers.
Either a 33.5% increase for the 2020 and 2024 editions compared to 2016.
Armel Le Cléac’h pocketed €160,000 by winning the Vendée Globe during this edition. Alex Thomson, second, won €100,000 and Jérémie Beyou, bronze medalist, won €75,000.
An endowment for the winner of this world tour that is still far from the €500,000 won by the winner of the Tour de France or even lower than a defeat in the round of 16 at Roland-Garros which brings in €250,000.
