Bergs lost in five sets after more than four hours of play 6-7 (5/7), 6-4, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 against the Argentinian Facundo Diaz Acosta (ATP 73 ). However, the Belgian No.2 was full of confidence after his first final in an ATP tournament, lost on Saturday in Auckland against Gaël Monfils. In New Zealand, he played seven matches including qualifying, which left its mark physically. “I think I’m a bit of a victim of my success in Auckland,” he said. “When you arrive here, and the first session tires you out quickly, you hope that an afternoon of rest will be enough to get you back on your feet. But when that’s not the case on match day, you know that it’s will be complicated.”
